President's Message

Are you, or is a family member or friend, facing significant vision loss? Does it seem to you that vision loss will likely mean the end of a person’s capacity to live an independent and productive life?

Well, if you are a member of the California Council of the Blind, you know that vision loss does not need to diminish your independence and quality of life. Blindness or low vision presents obstacles and challenges, but ones that you can overcome, and the California Council of the Blind is here to help you do just that.

The council, established in 1934, is made up of Californians who are blind or visually impaired from all walks of life. The council is comprised of students, seniors, job seekers, teachers, computer programmers, entrepreneurs, attorneys, and psychologists, among others, whose common goal is to work for better opportunities for persons with visual impairments. Among its array of services, the council provides college scholarships, no-interest loans for employment purposes, crisis assistance funding, mentorship and peer support, seminars and conferences, information and referral services, and advocacy assistance.

Whether you want to become a member of a local California Council of the Blind chapter or an at-large member, donate or provide volunteer services to the council, or seek to use any of the services we provide, this website will provide you with the information you need. If you have any questions or concerns, you may call our office toll-free at 800-2216359 or contact us by e-mail at ccotb@ccbnet.org.
