Joint Capital Day of Action

Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed in some way to Capital Day on May 26th. Whether you donated money, made the trip, made phone calls concurrently with our Day of Action, or just encouraged another person to attend, all of it was valuable and is still making a difference in the state
legislature. Capital Day was a great success, although the CDLA realizes improvements are necessary, including starting earlier and coordinating much better.
There will be an interactive debrief on Thursday, June 25 at 7:00PM for CCB members who attended.

AB-2135 (Kalra) Long-Term Health Care Facilities

We are still working with the California Long-term Care Ombudsman Association (CTLCOA), the California Alliance for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), and the Disability Rights, Education, and Defense Fund (DREDF) on enforcing equitable discharge requirements, including notices in accessible formats. It has advanced to a final hearing on June 24th in the Senate Health Committee and we anticipate this will be the final hearing for the bill.

Older Individuals Who Are Blind and Order of Selection

We are working with a new and unprecedented coalition of blindness consumer and service organizations, including the National Federation of the Blind of
California (NFBC) and organizations from the California Agencies for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), to respond to the recent 60 percent cut to
OIB and the proposed implementation of Order of Selection in our state. We have found out that 15 states around the country are already in Order of Selection. We have written a letter with many organizations from the disability community and allies and sent it to the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) to ask that category 1 not be closed and employment retention services continue. This same coalition is working to spearhead an emergency budget ask for 5 million dollars to shore up OIB funding in our state. We have had somewhat encouraging meetings with legislators and so will be asking members from all the interested organizations, including CCB, to sign onto individual letters urging their own legislators to support this budget ask to retain vital services
for older adults and some youth programs. We will be using Speak4, courtesy of ACB. We will also be asking our members who can to visit their representatives in their district offices over the legislative recess from July 4 to August 4. We will then begin a second Speak4 campaign in August. Look out for these actions and participate if you can.

Transportation coalitions

We are working with several transportation coalitions, including the Disability and Aging Community Living Advisory Committee (DACLAC) and Transportation
Convening, to advance transportation concerns and initiatives. Along with Disability Rights of California, DACLAC has given us feedback on possible legislation around Para Transit county to county travel. Transportation Convening, along with the California Transportation Association, is launching an all-out effort to emphasize the importance of protecting GGRF investment in the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program, Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, Low Carbon Transit Operations Program, and AB 617 program. CCB has signed on and will work with them to promote the parts of this initiative that support public transportation in our state and affordable, accessible housing.

LTSS4All through Hand in Hand virtual and in person action days

Thanks to all who have made calls or come to the Capitol in person! Hand in Hand has been a wonderful partner. We continue to advocate with them for the
Medi-Cal asset limit to remain at its current level and to prevent cuts to IHSS services.
