CCB Conference And Convention:

Get on the bus Gus, hop on the train Jane, just get to Fresno any way you can!

Celebrate our 85th birthday at the CCB Convention June 5-9 at the DoubleTree Hotel and Convention Center in Fresno. Remember that next year, we will not be having our convention in one statewide location, so now is the time to come on out and make it a happening for the entire CCB family.

We are only about half way to our room nights for our convention in Fresno. If we don't make our guaranteed number of rooms there will be some large financial penalties for CCB. There are rooms still available for the entire convention and we hope to see you there.

You can make reservations by calling 559-268-1000 or online at
http://doubletree.hilton.com/en/dt/groups/personalized/F/FATCCDT-COB-201...

Be sure to mention that you are attending the California Council of the Blind Convention. The all-inclusive rate is $135 per night, although the reservationist may quote you the price of $117.90 plus tax, which is equal to $135.

You can also pre-register for the convention either by telephone or e-mail to the CCB office or online through the link in your convention announcement or directly at http://ccbnet.org/drupal72/node/13

May Presidents Call:

Since the fourth Monday May 27 is a holiday the presidents call will also take a holiday. Also we assume many will be preparing to attend convention.

EUC Community Educator:

We say farewell to Duane Poole as he deals with challenges in his life. We wish him all the best.

We welcome James Collins as our new Community Educator. Most of you will meet him at the convention as he will be getting up to speed through much of May.

James has just completed working on a grant much like ours in that he was the program manager for Breathe CAlifornia which conducted “Our Community CarShare Sacramento”.

You can contact him in the usual way by calling the office and entering the number 2.

Bylaws:

The Constitution and bylaws committee has been hard at work implementing the feedback we got last year and we have an updated draft to share with everyone. By the time you are reading or listening to this it should have already been sent to the presidents and CCB-l email lists so ask your chapter or affiliate president about it. The draft will also be recorded on the CCB phone system by early the week of May 6th. Call the office at 800-221-6359 and press option 6. Please send any feedback to committee chair Gabe Griffith at gabrielgriffith@gmail.com or call him at (925)768-8195.

Finally, we will be holding a zoom conference line the week of May 20 so stay tuned for the exact date, time and call information.

From The CCB Scholarship Committee:

The CCB Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications from CA residents attending college full time for the 2019-2020 academic year. This application will be open from February 1 through May 15. The scholarship application is at

Monday, May 13 7 to 8PM
Call: 408.638.0968

https://zoom.us/j/158236260

There are so many layers of issues surrounding being either a type 1 or type 2 diabetic, and many of them are very different.

One issue similar to both is the problem of eating out in restaurants when traveling.

What should you eat? What should you ignore? How do you decide if you do not have the knowledge? Are there books, or Internet sites which might help?

And with the state convention coming in June and the ACB convention in July, any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated by all.

Join us for a 60 minute discussion on a very important diabetic topic.

For comments or questions about this meeting call Larry Gassman at (714) 449-1958 or email LarryGassman@roadrunner.com
