Editor's Note:

There have been several items lately intended to be submitted to the happenings but have been sent to the wrong address. Please remember that the address for submitting items is submit.happenings@ccbnet.org and is included in the opening paragraph of each week's Happenings.
thank you for your attention to this matter.

CCB Office Coverage:

Nicole will be on vacation from may 16th through the 21st. CCB members will be answering the phones but if there is anything Nicole is needed for we will be taking your information and she will call you back when she returns.

CCB Conference And Convention:

Less than one week left to get the CCB hotel room rate for the 85th birthday bash, otherwise known as the CCB Conference and Convention, June 5-9, at our birthplace of Fresno.

You can make reservations by calling the DoubleTree by Hilton Fresno Convention Center At 559-268-1000 through May 22. There may be rooms available after this but we don't know how many and can't make any guarantees so please hurry!

Where else can you learn about the issues of the day, sample the latest and greatest technology, and enjoy a party at the same time? “Believe and Achieve” is not just a catchy convention theme, it is what we do in CCB and you’ll see why at the CCB Convention.

Remember that free shuttle service is available from Greyhound, Amtrak and the airport, so let’s get ready to rumble!

CCB Candidates Forum:

On June 7, during the CCB Convention, we will be holding elections for CCB 2nd vice president and Secretary, as well as several positions on the board of directors. In order to enable members to become acquainted with the candidates, we will hold a Candidate’s Forum at 3 PM on Sunday June 2 using the Zoom platform. The forum will last not more than two hours. Each candidate will have two minutes for an opening statement, followed by questions from the audience, with each candidate then having one minute for a closing statement.

Even if you haven’t provided a candidate statement and now feel you want to run for a position, it’s not too late to join as a candidate on this call.

Giving:

We live in our own communities. Our community might be our neighborhood. It may be our CCB chapter. It could be a group of friends we hang out with.

We help those in our community, but what about others in need? Andre Green has taken the idea of community to the world. He has undertaken the task of collecting canes, something we take for granted, and sending them to Africa through James Boehm’s organization, "We Cane Give Initiative."

Find out more about Andre’s efforts and James’ organization in the upcoming issue of the Blind Californian.
