Welcome to the CCB Happenings for May 19, 2023.
From the Technical Operations Group: Updating Forwarders
The TOG is in the process of updating the CCBNet email forwarders. If you are an owner of a CCB list, please send a message to webmaster@ccbnet.org with your name and which lists you monitor. This includes chapters, affiliates, committees, etc. If you have any questions, please also write to webmaster@ccbnet.org
From Jeff Thom:
Regrettably, I must report that AB1518, a bill by Assemblywoman Friedman, sponsored by CCB NFBC, Canine Companions, and Guide Dogs for the Blind, has died in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The bill would have required the Department of Consumer Affairs to conduct an educational campaign aimed at educating the business community about the rights of service animal teams. This result was caused by a very high, and I would say, inflated, cost estimated by that department. The author’s office and the sponsors are committed, however, to working on the bill and re-introducing it in a form that will hopefully become law in the future.
Power Saver Rewards CCB Community Call to Action”
California Council of the Blind is honored to be a grant recipient of the 2023 Power Saver Rewards education and outreach project.
The Power Saver Rewards program is a continued hearts and minds campaign/initiative created by the California Public Utilities Commission intended to provide residents with rebate incentives for conserving energy during a called Flex Alert.
Flex Alerts are issued during heat waves and are designed to remind us when and how to save energy to avoid preventable power outages in California.
I will be reaching out to CCB chapters to gather feedback along with volunteer opportunities. If you know of and or can encourage community members to participate in events this spring and summer, please contact CCB’s main office at (916) 441-2100.
For additional program details, please visit Power Saver Rewards or contact James Collins, CCB Community Educator at James.Collins@CCBnet.org.
Innervision Theater announces Project Interplay, a statewide creative opportunity!
We need writers with a sense of humor, voice actors, and parliamentarians statewide to work on a project to bring knowledge to the whole CCB through theater and fun. We are working with the Membership Committee of CCB to offer a perspective on leadership using theater as a vehicle. There will be auditions. If this is something that appeals to you, contact Regina Brink at reginamariemusic@gmail.com or call (916)393-0662.
Walter Chevira is seeking donation of a white cane in good condition, 52 inches in length.
