Welcome to the CCB Courier for February 21, 2025.
IDC members and friends:
Music is our universal language. You may have heard the song by Donald Lawrence where he says: “Sometimes, you have to encourage yourself …” IDC would like to encourage ourselves with a game of “Name That Tune.” The songs will be songs from the Civil Rights movement known as “protest songs” or “freedom songs.” So whether you grew up in the ‘60’s or have learned these songs at your mother’s knee or from your Dad’s record collection, spend your Sunday afternoon recalling those words that were so powerful then and remain powerful today during these hard times. Let’s remember this Black history, which is American history, and celebrate it! To receive the Zoom information, email Regina Brink at reginamariemusic@gmail.com or call her at (916)393-0662.
From the Audio Internet Reading Service of Los Angeles:
It’s a subject we don’t want to talk about, but we should. Suicide. “For youth ages 10 to 14, suicide is the second leading cause of death,” -Johns Hopkins Health. Emeline Sanchez reads from The Marginalian, Week of February 7, 2025, “To the Young Who Want to Die.” A simple smile or acknowledgement to another person may make all the difference.
