Welcome to the California connection for May 13.
From The President
This year, at the annual ACB Conference and Convention, we will be holding our 10th annual ACB auction, entitled "A Decade of Dreams Auction."
If you would like to donate anything to a California basket, let me know prior to May 30, either by e-mail jsthom@comcast.net or by phone at 916-995-3967.
You can bring your item to me if you are attending the convention or send it to the office ahead of time, but I need a description of what our basket will hold by May 30. Even gift cards are very welcome additions, as is anything original or that has a California flavor to it.
Thanks again for all that you do in this regard.

Future Convention Conference Call
Dear Presidents, members, and other interested parties:
A statewide conference call for members and interested parties will take place on May 23rd from 7 PM to 9 PM.
The call-in number is 712.432.3066 and the code is 840878.
The conference call is the second of two forums to gather the opinions of attendees and potential attendees of future CCB conferences and conventions.
The forum will focus on two questions which follow:
Question 1: What, in your opinion, would be an ideal length of time for a conference and convention (cc)?
When answering, please consider the following:
- If the cc were reduced by one day, what do you feel could be sacrificed?
- If the cc were lengthened by one day, what programming would you add?
- If the cc were kept at the current four days, would there be a need to make changes, and what would you propose?
Question 2: What are the reasons you and/or other members do not attend conferences and conventions?
Responses to these questions will only be accepted during the May 23rd conference call. However, there will be surveys developed in the next few months to gather additional information such as, but not limited to, the cost items related to putting on a conference and convention.
Please disseminate and encourage your members as well as other interested parties to participate on this conference call. Those who cannot participate on the May 23rd conference call or wish to amend their comments can do so by email at ccotb@ccbnet.org or phone 1-800-221-6359.
Ed Branch, CCB Administrative Assistant, will take dictated comments from phone callers.
Email and phone submissions must be made on or before 11:59 PM Monday May 30, 2016.
Best regards,
Gene Lozano

Open House
Valley Center for the Blind is hosting an Open House to welcome our valued community members to join us as we kick off our exciting new location.
The Valley Center for the Blind (previously known as Friendship Center for the Blind) began in February of 1972 through the efforts of Dr. Andrea Schwartz who saw a great need for social and recreational services for blind individuals living in Fresno.
Due to the growing need we have recently moved locations in order to increase our ability to serve our valued blind and visually impaired clients.
Please join us for our Open House event Friday, May 20th at our new location, 3417 W. Shaw Avenue Fresno, CA 93710, between 4pm-8pm. We are on track to have a strong media presence and hope that this event will give your office a chance to learn more about The Valley Center for the Blind and the work that we do at our facility. It would be an honor to have you in attendance and show your support for the disabled individuals of Fresno.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (559) 222-4447 ext. 107 or SHeber@vcbfresno.org
