CCB Happenings April 19, 2019

Welcome to the CCB happenings for April 19.

CCB Office Closure:

The CCB Office will be closed on Monday, April 22 and will reopen on Tuesday, April 23.

Call For Candidates:

At the 2019 CCB convention we will have 7 seats up for election including 2 officer positions and 5 director positions. If you are interested in running for one of these seats please submit answers to the below questions. The word count limit is 300 words for each question. However, you may submit answers for all 3 questions in one document. Send your submissions to ccotb@ccbnet.org with the subject line of your last name and CCB candidate questions. The deadline for submissions is Friday April 26th.

  1. State the position you are seeking. What are your qualifications for this office, and what contributions have you made to your chapter or affiliate or to the statewide organization in the last year?
  2. In light of The Phoenix Committee’s charge to chart the way forward for CCB, what are your recommendations for charting CCB’s future and how would you achieve them?
  3. Briefly discuss a major internal debate likely to face CCB during your term.

CCB Convention:

We are only about half way to our room nites for our convention in Fresno. If we don't make our guaranteed number of room s there will be some large financial penalties for CCB. There are a limited number of rooms still available for Wednesday June 5th. You can make reservations by calling 559-268-1000 or online at
http://doubletree.hilton.com/en/dt/groups/personalized/F/FATCCDT-COB-201...

Be sure to mention that you are attending the California Council of the Blind Convention. The all-inclusive rate is $135 per night, although the reservationist may quote you the price of $117.90 plus tax, which is equal to $135.

CCB Presidents Call:

Gabe and I have been processing and cogitating over the ideas presented during our March presidents call.

Wile anyone can attend, beginning with this meeting, we will ask that only the chapter or affiliate president or the designated representative speak.

To that end, we will begin by muting everyone and asking you to “raise your hand” to speak.

We will be sending an agenda to the presidents list over the weekend but the information to participate is below.

Date: April 22
Time: 7:30 PM
call in number: 408.638.0968

CCB District Days:

From: Alice Turner and Ardis Bazyn:

Any CCB member visiting state Assembly members and state Senators, or members of their staffs, in their district offices during the week of April 29 to May 3 should be making your appointments. In order to receive a copy of our 2019 legislative imperatives document that you can pass out to your legislators, participants should send in your name if interested to the co-chairs of the Governmental Affairs Committee, Alice Turner alicem1957@comcast.net or Ardis Bazyn abazyn@bazyncommunications.com

The document will be on letterhead and will be formatted correctly. This document can be shared with other members that you know are considering participation in District Office Week.

Remember we are having two practice calls for District Office Week, on Monday and Wednesday April 22 and 24, at 7:30 P.M. The phone number is 712-775-8968 and the code is 497700.

These calls will enable you to get a better grasp of the issues in the imperatives.

The final document with imperatives to be given to legislators on district days will be distributed to participants on Tuesday, April 23. However, if anyone would like to see the draft for the call on Monday night, they can contact Alice or Ardis and a copy of the document will be sent to you.

Writer's Group:

Many CCB Chapters host thought-provoking speakers for their meetings. They may serve the community or be advocates for Disability Rights. They give insight. Please share their knowledge with the broader community. Even if they are a local-to-you organization, spread their knowledge! Another area may start a similar service. How? Through our own grassroots organization of CCB! Volunteer and share in the new Writer’s Group.
